Bringing live market data into the classroom

When we first prototyped Divendo, we used made-up prices. It worked fine, technically. But something was missing — and it took a classroom test to figure out what.
The moment it changed
We watched a student check the price of a stock she'd "bought," then pull out her phone to compare it to a real finance app. When the numbers matched, her whole posture changed. This wasn't a game anymore. It was real — and suddenly she cared.
Live data turns abstract lessons into something visceral. A 3% drop hits differently when it's the same 3% drop the professionals are staring at on their screens.
Why real beats realistic
We now price every simulated trade against live market data. Students learn on the same numbers, the same volatility, and the same surprises that move actual portfolios. When the market has a wild day, our classrooms light up — because the lesson is literally happening in real time.
There's a deeper reason, too. Financial literacy isn't just knowledge; it's comfort. We want students to graduate already familiar with the rhythm of markets — so that opening a real brokerage account feels like returning to something they know, not stepping into the unknown.
